Toothbrush Care: Maintaining and Replacing

Maintaining good oral hygiene is important. But do you know how often you should be replacing your toothbrush? How about effectively cleaning it to get rid of harmful bacteria? Follow these steps to toothbrush maintenance to ensure you have good oral health all year long!

Step 1. Be sure to replace your toothbrush every three to four months. If your bristles are frayed, that’s a sign that your brush should be replaced even sooner.

Step 2. Soak your toothbrush in hydrogen peroxide for roughly 3-5 minutes. Then rinse out thoroughly with hot water. Alternatively, you can soak your toothbrush in mouthwash for roughly 3-5 minutes. This is an effective way to kill germs that cover your toothbrush.

Step 3. Always replace your toothbrush after you’ve been sick. We recommend throwing your toothbrush away, even if it hasn’t reached the three-month mark. Especially if your toothbrush is in a holder with other brushes. The bacteria can spread and get your family members sick. It’s always a good rule of thumb to replace your toothbrush after you’ve been sick.
